How to stay warm in a wheelchair or stroller

Autumn and winter can be tough and cold when you're sitting still in a wheelchair or pushing small children in a stroller.

I've experienced the frustration of cold feet, wet blankets and duvets slipping off the stroller myself. That's why I've gathered my best tips – both practical and cozy – for keeping the heat out in everyday life, whether it's a wheelchair or a stroller.

🔹 Dress yourself (or your child) in layers

Several thin layers keep you warmer than one thick garment. Think wool on the inside, fleece in the middle, and windproof on the outside. Don't forget a hat, scarf, and warm booties or shoes.

🔹 Add heat sources

Hand warmers, woolen seat pads, heating pads (not electric in a stroller!) or a hot water bottle in a case can work wonders.

🔹 Cover the wheelchair or stroller from underneath

The cold often comes from below! Place a woolen seat cushion , insulating blanket or sheepskin in the seat to reduce heat loss. A piece of sleeping mat in the seat can also help.

🔹 Drink hot

Warm drinks help from the inside out! Bring a thermos of tea, broth or hot juice if you're out for a long time.

🔹 Choose the right accessories for your wheelchair or stroller

A rain cover, stroller bag or windproof cover can help a lot. After many years, we at Cab-on have developed a flexible cover that our customers believe meets the most important needs. Unlike a rain cover or stroller bag, our covers and blankets provide warmth without making you feel trapped and are much easier and faster to put on and take off compared to a regular stroller bag for a wheelchair or stroller. At the same time, our blankets and covers protect against rain.

Finally, I want to remind you to listen to your body. If you're freezing, you're freezing. Heat is not a luxury, it's a prerequisite for feeling good outside. We want more people to have the freedom to participate in activities and play outdoors. In our dry weather.
